(Character
Compendium) |
(Supporting Cast) |
Rebel Support |
Description |
Background |
|
|
Kolgrim (Dead) |
A cheerful dwarf who always has something to be chipper aboot. He
speaks with a thick Scottish accent. With a fiery red beard, it belies his gentle
temperament. He is a novice blacksmith as well as being a pro with an ale
horn. |
The owner of The Sword and Shackles tavern in a non-descript hamlet,
Kolgrim was the public front for the secret rebellion. He was killed by
Marath because he refused to let the warlord take the children. |
|
Stanley |
Stanley is over 90 years old, and moves like an olympic sprinter. A
tricky fellow, he can often use his age to great effect to fool his foes into
underestimating him. He is a born scout, and fearlessly stalks the wilds of
Carcerus for information. |
Unknown |
|
Dunstan |
Dunstan is huge. He is 7 and a half feet of walking muscle, which is
often mistaken for fat. He is fearsome to behold, but has a heart of gold; a
real gentle half-giant. He is a builder first, warrior second. |
Dunstan was captured when his village was raided after Blake's forces
were unable to rescue a prisoner convoy following their depletion from a
heinous betrayal. His family were taken away, and he was sent to the hamlet
to be processed by the new artifact. |
|
Thalwin (Dead) |
Thalwin is best described as 'ordinary'. He has no outstanding
physical traits. However, during his time hiding amongst Marath's forces, he
learned a great deal about dark magic and necromancy. |
Thalwin was not brave. Upon Marath's swathing occupation of Carcerus,
Thalwin needed to survive, and to do that, he pretended to be one of them
when the processing failed on him. Although he did what he could, he bares
the guilt of many lives that he has failed to save, and is desperate for
absolution. He used to serve as the primary caregiver for the rebellion
before his untimely death at Marath’s hands. He used his last breaths to heal
everyone else as they fled and hid from the mad warlord. |
|
Anneese |
A plain looking lady with mid-length dark brown hair. Anneese is
timid and shies away from the growing numbers, but she does her part, tending
to crops and injuries in equal measure. |
Anneese lived at the hamlet all her life. When Marath's soldiers took
it, she kept her head down and carried on tending the crops and animals. It
was Anneese that first made contact with Blake to form the resistance, and
was instrumental in the start of Blake's mission after nursing him back to
health. |
|
Parker |
Parker is a strapping young lad with short brown hair and a cocky
attitude. He’s a dab hand with knives and bows, and is a master scout thanks
to his training from Stanley. |
Parker was left abandoned in a village in the early days of Marath’s
reign. He was found by Stanley hiding under the floorboards of a ruined
church, and since then the boy had learned the ways of the infiltrator under
Stanley’s wing. |
|
Zachary |
Zachary is a weatherbeaten man with long untidy hair and scruffy
beard. He’s quite tall and broad, and is quite an imposing presence, but he
speaks in a soft and polite manner that belies an inner ferocity and
strength. |
Zachary was the lookout on the last Emissary expedition, and briefly
sailed with Blake and Barclay. When the ship was sunk and Zachary was
separated from everyone else, he tried to do the same thing Blake did and
take the fight to the Marathians. Unfortunate circumstance led to his capture
and domination, and until recently, had served in Marath’s army for ten
years. Thanks to the rebels who fought him at the Bone Beach Bastion, rather
than kill him, Kamali was able to restore some of his mind. He now serves the
rebels loyally. |
Finn |
Finn is the Watcher of the Eye of Carcerus. A man in his fifties, but
looks much younger, his silver hair and soft expression show him to be one of
the friendliest men you can meet. |
Granted passage to live within the Eye of Carcerus by a young Hal
Libris, Finn moved into the protected magical field with his wife. Dying from
a wasting disease, Hal, having lost his own wife very recently, took pity on
the couple and let them in despite them not being cleared. The magical
properties within the dome cured her, and Finn feels a deep sense of debt and
gratitude towards Hal. |
|
|
Karin (Dead) |
Karin is a centaur knight. Once under the thrall of Marath’s
domination, she somehow broke free of the enchantment and fled her unit. She
has short blonde hair, and is very shy. |
Unknown. Karin died trying to protect Thalwin. |
|
Tamika |
Tamika is an alchemist that lives with her adopted son, Henry in the hamlet
Rendezvous 41, north of the rebel base. She is dark-skinned and wears
peculiar clothes, and speaks in a thick accent. |
Unknown. |
|
Zanthar |
Zanthar is a bird warrior with silver plumage and a distinctive red
beak. Despite his sullen looking expression, he’s actually quite a laid-back
fellow with a penchant for cursing. |
Why Zanthar came to be in Carcerus is unknown, aside from the fact
that he used to act as a spy within Marath’s ranks. He advanced quite high,
commanding a squadron of dullahans, until an accidental laugh gave him away.
Blake and his rebels saved him from certain execution. |
Carceran Refugees |
Description |
Background |
|
|
Berick (Dead) |
Berick is a scruffy, bearded man with long brown hair. His
maltreatment in Marathian hands has left him gaunt and wirey, but his eyes
are alight with a crafty intelligence. |
Berick was the de facto leader of the villagers saved from execution
by Barclay, Kamali, Lyra and Lisa. Their elder was slain when he set fire to
the Marath Captain that threatened their village. Berick died in a failed
attempt to sneak away from the hamlet to get help. |
|
Marina |
Marina is an elven woman – one of the four to be hanged before the
execution was interrupted. She has long, flowing blonde hair, and is very thin. |
Marina’s husband was the breadwinner of the house, and the village
Elder. When he was killed for setting fire to the Marath Captain, she and her
son, Seliun were taken to be made an example of. |
|
Kelron |
Kelron is a dragonkin man – one of the four to be hanged before the
execution was interrupted. He has bright red scales and two long black horns.
His time in Marathian custody has left him looking frail despite his relative
youth. |
Kelron once lived in Signus, and is a former emissary. On his last
mission he met his wife and decided to settle down in Carcerus. She died
giving birth to their son, Grat, but he has done his best to raise the lad by
himself. He was only sentenced to death for attacking the Marathians when
they took his boy away. |
|
Sammy |
Sammy is a catfolk woman - one of the four to be hanged before the
execution was interrupted. She has black fur and large pink eyes. Of the
saved refugees, she has recovered the most quickly. |
Sammy ran a small orphanage for children that had lost their parents
to the war and the ravages of the inhospitable land, which she ran with her
partner, Gregory. The Marathian soldiers took every last child in their care,
so naturally they attacked, and were sentenced to death as a result. |
|
Gregory |
Gregory is a tall, ebony skinned dwarf with silver hair and a long,
braided beard - one of the four to be hanged before the execution was
interrupted. He used to do a lot of the smithing and repairs for the village. |
Gregory ran the orphanage in the village, along with his long term
partner, Sammy. When the children were taken by Marath’s forces, he was one
of the first to attack them. |
|

Derick is a stout boy, aged 10. He has a broad build, jet-black hair,

|

Mia is a small, shy, sklittish girl, about 8 years old. She has brown
hair and blue eyes. |
Mia was taken from Sammy and Gregory’s orphanage with many other
children. When zombies attacked the caravan, her leg became stuck, and the
Marathians left her to die. It took the intervention of Blake and his rebels
to rescue her. |
|
Ali (Captured) |
Ali is a small girl, about 6 years old. She is blonde with green
eyes. She is shy around strangers, but is otherwise a bit of a tomboy |
Ali is the little girl that Blake rescued from Room 1 in the Bastion.
She lived in the orphanage. |
|
Ruce (Captured) |
Ruce is a chubby boy, about 7 years old. He has blonde hair and brown
eyes. He’s normally very talkative, though around Alex he becomes totally
silent. |
Ruce is the little boy that Lisa rescued from Room 2 in the Bastion.
He lived in the orphanage. |
|
Tim (Captured) |
Tim is a tiny hobbit child, no older than 4 years old. He has fuzzy
brown hair and green eyes. Tim is a very curious child. |

Bastion. He lived in the orphanage. |
|
Tina (Captured) |

blue eyes. She wears glasses. She is the most cheerful of the rescued
children, always wearing a smile. |
Tina is the little girl that Barclay rescued from Room 8 in the
Bastion. She lived in the orphanage. |
|
Alex |
Alex is a tall boy for his age (12). He seems more mature than his
age suggests. He has blue hair and eyes. His tone of voice and mannerisms
generally set people on edge. He seems off to anyone that speaks to him, and
speaks with grim tidings, which upsets the other children. |
Alex was found by Kade in Room 7 of the Bastion. He did not live in
the orphanage, nor does anyone rescued from the execution know of him. How he
wound up in the bastion is a mystery. |
Emissary Support |
Description |
Background |
|
|
|
A young and impetuous man, the new King of Signus has silvery hair
and an athletic physique. He is a very affable fellow for a member of the
nobility. |
The former Prince has led a somewhat sheltered life. Though he is
well-learned in both academic pursuits and swordplay, his life experience is
somewhat lacking. It is his destiny to inherit the legacy of the seals from
his father. Now the de facto leader of the City of Signus, his coronation
will make him the new King, whereupon he will find a queen and lead Veridocia
into a new age. |
|
King Gerald (Dead) |
An aging man of impressive stature, King Gerald is an imposing,
commanding presence. With short grey hair and moustache, he is always
well-kempt, unlike the chosen style of his son, much to his chagrin. |
King Gerald inherited the throne during a period of peace and
tranquillity. This remained the case until the rise of Marath. The King
became increasingly distant and reclusive following the failed attempts to
rescue the missing emissaries, and since then, unrest has steadily grown
across Veridocia. He blames himself for those lost, and views his impending
end as a mercy. Though he had always been hard on his son, he secretly hopes
that Gulwin can be the man that he could not. Gulwin managed to visit him
before he passed on, and finally admitted that he was glad that Gulwin had
stood up for the people, and that he would be a stronger king than he was. |
|
Prince Avaria |
A vibrant birdman with cobalt blue plumage, Prince Avaria is a regal
and steadfast noble. Like Gulwin compared to King Gerald, he is much more
affable than his father, and firmly believes that new blood is what is needed
to set Veridocia in the right direction. |
Prince Avaria is a long-time friend of Prince Gulwin. Since they were
boys, visits between the two kingdoms were common, and the two princes treat
each other more like close cousins. |
|
Lord Hal Libris |
An aged warrior with a beard and bald head, often wearing his old,
battered armour. In recent years, Hal has become steadily more infirm, and
must take regular medicine to function normally. This has done nothing to
dampen his easy-going personality. Talent: Against the Odds- When Hal is the only one standing, HP, ATT,
DEF and AGI all increase by 20% until he is defeated. |
Hal is a Lord of Signus, and a former general. He was a prominent
leader during the Emissary Expeditions to Carcerus before Marath's reign. He
is the father of two daughters - Leanna and Heather - and a son, Blake
Libris. Until recently, Blake was believed lost, but recent news has spurred
Hal out of retirement to find his missing son. Hal and Blake were reunited.
But that reunion was short-lived. Hal’s ghoulish illness was beginning to
overwhelm him despite his medicine, and so he stayed in the Eye of Carcerus,
where the disease can’t kill him. But Blake would not return after venturing
out again… |
|
Leanna Libris |
A beautiful, voluptuous young woman with long, flowing blonde hair,
She has a steely glint in her eye, and behaves in a sultry manner more often
than not. |
Leanna is the eldest daughter of Lord Libris. A War Priest in service
to Nazalem, she has a strong mind, and a strong body to go with it. Losing
her older brother affected her deeply however, and she now masks her pain
with sarcasm and bravado. |
|
Heather Libris |
Heather is a young lady with a lithe, fragile frame. She is generally
well-mannered, polite, and reserved, regularly rolling her eyes at her older
sister's vulgarity. |
Heather is an apprentice mage close to becoming a full-fledged caster
of magic. She is physically weak after a childhood malady nearly claimed her
life, but her spirit is indomitable. Few can challenge her to a debate and
win, due to her impeccable intellect. |
|
Master Rodes |
Master Rodes is a Sage in service to Prince Avaria. He is an
even-mannered, even-tempered man with a soothing way of speaking. A wise and
learned birdman with white plumage and blue robes, he is a shrewd advisor. |
Rodes grew up in the hatcheries of Avaria and didn’t really stand out
much growing up. He was quite insular, and would usually stay out of the
noise and traffic to find a quiet corner to study. It paid off one night when
he happened upon the Prince, who was so impressed by the studious birdman
that he was asked to serve the Prince as his personal advisor. |
|
Gunther |
Gunther is a unique individual. Half giant, half birdfolk, his size
makes his ability to fly unbelievable to many. He has a piercing gaze that is
unsettling at first, but under his fierce demeanour lies an unfailing
kindness. |
Gunther’s birth was a moment of shame for his father. Once a
well-respected Lord of Avaria, his triste with a giant maiden caused outrage,
and the King stripped him of his lands and titles, and forced his father into
exile. Gunther was kept around as a servant, with no hope of reclaiming his
father’s legacy. |
|
Malik |
Malik is a spymaster. Wearing dark, hooded clothes, and with black
plumage, his is every bit the crow his appearance suggests. Devious and
cunning, he thinks nothing of taking what he needs when he needs it, and
always has a plan up his voluminous sleeves. |
Malik did not grow up in Avaria like most birdfolk. His egg was
stolen by mistake amidst a pile of other treasures the robber was aiming for.
The egg hatched while his gang counted the spoils, but rather than ditch the
hatchling, they raised him to be a thief and to join their gang. |
|
Verdi |
Verdi is an elven druid. So attuned to nature is she, that her hair has
been transformed into leaves, and her skin has turned green. Little else is
known of her. |
Her background is shrouded in mystery. All that is known of her is
that until very recently, she was the unwilling host of an aggressive spirit. |
|
Lord Kita |
Lord Kita is a middle-aged man with an athletic build and oriental
features. He sports long black hair, and a goatee. |
Lord Kita originally hails from Kyo, but has always been allies with
the Lords of Signus. He played a role in the Emissary Expeditions, using his
fortune to acquire large portions of the aid that was used to alleviate the
Carcerans’ suffering. |
|
Hail |
Hail is the newest and youngest of the four, and is also less vicious
than the other two. He is a Kyantol that is calm, and a man of few words. |
Unlike Snow and Sleet, Hail only partook for Rain's own good,
preferring to simply prevent Rain from helping than actively partaking in the
beating. He is the most sympathetic of the three, and has since reconciled with
Rain, and joined the Emissary Expedition. Upon landing on Carceran soil, his
past mistakes came back to bite him, as Barclay was the young man whom Rain
had taken a shine to so many years ago. Barclay was none too pleased about
being murdered. Hail’s special is: Stealth-Can hide in rough terrain, making
him untargettable by most foes. Attacking from hidden is an automatic double
critical. |
|
Vaelin Woodstrider |
Vaelin is an elven soldier. He has an androgynous appearance, which
is usually hidden behind a mask or some other form of camouflage. He is a
master at guerrilla warfare. |
Trained as a soldier in Signus, Vaelin rose through the ranks to
become Colonel just before he was sent on the rescue expedition to
investigate the missing Emissary fleet. He was ordered to set up a station on
a small island between Veridocia and Carcerus as mid-point for resupplying
the ships. But with the decimation of the rescue fleet, and the order from
King Gerald forbidding travel to Carcerus, Vaelin and his men were stranded
for ten years. He has now joined the Emissary Expedition. |
|
Billin Bearclaw |
Billin is a human soldier with a gruff demeanour. He is a fairly
well-renowned monster tamer, and has many scars to prove his vocation. |
Trained as a soldier in Signus, Billin rose through the ranks to
become Lieutenant Colonel just before he was sent with Vaelin on the rescue
expedition to investigate the missing Emissary fleet. He is Vaelin’s partner,
but an unknown compulsion took hold of the monster tamer, forcing him to act
violently and irrationally. He abandoned Vaelin to join Ava’s crew until the
Platinum Team beat some sense back into him. He has now joined the Emissary
Expedition to seek redemption. |
|
Rio |
Rio is a merchant captain, transporter of fine goods and fine people.
His dashing looks and fancy accent make him a hard man to dislike. |
Unknown. |
|
The Destriers |
The Destriers are the elite of the elite of the Signus army. They are
rarely called on to undertake some of the most dangerous tasks by King
Gerald, but whenever they have been called, they never once failed in their
task. |
|
Villains |
Description |
Background |
|
|
Marath |
|
Ten years ago no one had heard of the name. Today, there is no one
that doesn’t know it. His soldiers march across the land looking for more and
more people to enslave, and his armies grow daily. Most believe he wishes to
control the whole continent. But is he motivated by something bigger? One of
Marath’s specials is Shroud of Shadow: +20% EVA, automatically win against
10s or less in dice contests. |
|
Egoran |
Egoran is a fat, hairy fuck. Draped in extravagant finery, he is the
very embodiment of excess and depravity. Simply talking to him will either
make your skin crawl, or make you want to punch him. |
The rebels know Egoran to be an appraiser of rare artifacts. Beyond
that, nothing else is known of him. |
|
Primundus |
An Elder Spirit from between the worlds, he is more powerful than the
other spirits. His red form is larger than other spirits. |
Primundus was the first spirit drawn to this world by Marath. He
seems to serve the Mad Warlord willingly, but his motives for doing so are
entirely his own. As the rebels escaped from Marath after he attacked their
hamlet base, Primundus saw an opportunity, and ensnared Blake Libris mere
moments before he was about to be whisked to safety. |
|
Vorlund |
One of Marath’s generals. Little is known of Vorlund. His true form
is always shrouded beneath a black and red robe. |
Unknown |
|
The Baroness |
One of Marath’s generals. She is a beautiful woman with long blonde
hair. She is a fierce fighter. |
Unknown. |
|
Sleet |
Sleet is a black Ratfolk ninja, and is the oldest of the four. He is
sarcastic and sadistic. He recently joined Marath’s ranks as a general. |
Snow may have come up with the plan, but Sleet is the one that did
the most damage. His special is: Blink-Teleport two spaces away if hit. |
|
Snow |
Snow is a female white owl birdfolk ninja, and Rain's closest rival.
She is cold, ruthless, and unforgiving, with a shrill laugh. She recently
joined Marath’s ranks as a general. |
She is the one that orchestrated the beating up of the boy Rain was
attached to. Her Talent is: Caltrops-Creates an area of rough terrain that
confers no LE bonus, and damages non-fliers that enter it. |
|
Verdigris |
A spirit from between worlds, Verdigris is very much like Kamali,
except that her form is green, indicating that she is aligned with nature.
Very little is known of her, except that she is incredibly aggressive. |
Unknown. |
|
Avastaria Yeander |
A beguiling pirate queen with a long green coat and a jaunty red hat,
Ava is cocky, boisterous, and domineering. She has a way of getting men to do
her bidding. |
Unknown. |
|
Cliff |
Cliff is a dark-skinned muscle-man with no hair. He sports a huge
warhammer, and tends to act before thinking. |
Cliff was once a merc that followed Zuberi for a time. He is not an
intelligent man, and after leaving Zuberi, found himself working for the
wrong person. His daughter was taken when he refused a job too far, and
sought to get the money to search for her by any means necessary. |
|
Dargon |
Dargon is huge. He doesn't speak, and seems to obey Egoran
completely. The half-giant wields a greatsword. |
Dargon is Egoran's bodyguard. He is always near him. |
|
Kayla |
Blonde, beautiful and boistrous, Kayla is as slender as she is
deadly. Her skill with a blade rivals Blake’s, and as it turned out, her
knack for subterfuge had everyone fooled. |
Captured by Blake during a rescue mission, Kayla genuinely seemed
remorseful and proved instrumental in building up the resistance. Then, out
of nowhere, she betrayed them, selling them all to Marath. Blake slit her
throat before using her Divine Feather to escape with Barclay and Nerine, but
not before they had lost everyone else. Blake learned that day that none in
Marath’s service can be trusted. |

|
Enemy Factions |
Description |
|
|
|
The Marathians |
Led by the Dark Warlord, Marath, The Marathians are countless men and
women that serve in a well-trained and organised army that dominates Carcerus
with an iron grip. Many are under some kind of mental compulsion to serve
him. |
|
|
The Scavengers |
A large horde of subterranean rat-men, the Rat Pack are the worst
kinds of scavenger. Though they take advantage of the weakened state of the
populace to mount supply raids on settlements, Marath's forces are
indiscriminate, and so the Rat-men must tread carefully, and pick their
assaults choosily. |
|
|
The Behemoth Battalion |
Within the rank and file Marathians are various death squads
comprised of extremely powerful, aggressive, and skilled warriors. They are
so named because many of said warriors are among the larger races, such as
half giants or monstrous races like ogres and trolls. They are deceptively
intelligent and cunning, taking a clever deception to fool them. |
|
|
Acolytes of the Godking |
A group of fanatics that believe that Nazalem is an imposter, and
that the true god died in the Divine War long ago. Most people deem them
crazy and unhinged. Too bad they're almost entirely correct except for one
teensy weensy detail: breaking the seals will not resurrect the god, but
instead incinerate the world in holy fire. |
|
